Sycamore Woodwose

This fella is in sycamore with a new approach to the eyes. he is 19cm tall. The carved area is finished with oil while the rest is bare to allow the piece to season. The contrast between the white of the wood against the dark bark makes this fella quite striking.

Check my web site lists to see some great work that inspires me.

Let me know what you think about the eyes..!

By the way. I hope you noticed the better photos which I have been promising myself for a while now. The photos were taken using a newly made 'light box' made from a design taken from http://www.emjaydesigns.blogspot.com/. Click on this link to check out the light box saga.

Hey, thanks for following my blog! Your carvings are quite interesting. I've always wondered the mechanics of carving something 3-D that starts out as 2-D drawing or concept.

Hi Steviewren.

I dont use drawings, I start to carve and the spirit of the wood emerges. sometimes I am suprised at the final piece. Traditionalists say that the spirit resides in the wood and the carver releases it. Dave

I love the dark bark contrasting the light. Also, the beard continued onto the second branch is a very good composition.
