Willow Druid

This is the latest carving from a piece of willow I found the other day. this is the last piece of willow from a batch I had from cutting back my own willow tree. he is from the same branch as 'Old Man Willow' posted 23rd December 2008 and Willow Spirit posted early December 2008

He has painted eyes with small glass beads to give some life.

he is finished in dark Jacobean Fiddes wax.

He is 25cm tall and 8cm in diameter. the hair runs partially around the piece and he has a closed over style at the top of the carving.

He looks quite sage and the label of 'Druid' seemed to fit him. Let me know what you think, your feedback on these carvings is very valuable to me.

Available to purchase, email woodwosecarving@googlemail.com

Your carving just amazes me, I love the way the faces just appear from the wood as though they've always been there. I particulary like the last two carvings.

I love all of them, but especially the Sycamore one.

PS...You have been tagged..if you want to no worries if you are too busy.

This is great! I have just picked up sculpting and have only been carving foam, or sculpting with clay. Maybe someday I will pick up some wood and have a go.

Do you mind if I post about this on my page?

Thanks All of you. The tagging was quite strangely stressfull but made me think about my photo and others I follow. A worth while and enjoyable excersise.

Rocket I have no worries about you posting on your page, If you are interested in wood give it a go, bits of wood are free from the forests and a swiss army knife if sharp (shaving your hair sharp) will be enough to start. Start with a few books to get some techniques you can develop, a bit of green wood and just have a go; just watch the fingers!

Best of luck. Kind regards Dave

There's a quality about this one that I can't quite put my finger on. It gives me a sense of peace....more so than the others. Beautiful!
